I am an active composer and multi-instrumentalist. I have mastered the traditional craft of music composition and enjoy exploring new mediums, forms, and creative practices.
I'm continually fascinated by the qualities of music, sound, and our responses to these. I am interested in our perception of musical and theatrical events. I have witnessed the positive effect that my art has on the world and I have been continuously compelled to continue. The intense study of music and sonic materials brings me authentic joy that he loves to share.
Composing new music for others to use has been my humble occupation for decades. A daily practice of improvising for dance and composing for film, has given me insights into the myriad ways in which sound, motion, and emotion connect and affect each other. It is this universal interplay of connectivity that has kept me going. I don’t have one method or approach, I adapt my creative practice to suit the unique individual needs of any given situation – to allow a diverse and wholistic approach. Often the work I do as a composer is interdisciplinary and collaborative, the work is not about me and my personal affinities, but concerned with what I have to give and how I can help a larger endeavor.
My compositions have been performed by PNW Chamber Orchestra, UCSB Orchestra, Degenerate art Ensemble Orchestra, among others. My film scores have been in festivals worldwide including Sundance Film Festival, Cannes Film Festival, NYFF, SXSW Film Festival. Recent commissions include a new score for Anfractuous (available in the App Store) an experimental contemporary-dance videogame in collaboration with Jen Salk and Martin Jarmick, funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. My latest film score for the “riveting” documentary Suburban Fury is coming soon to a theater near you…I am also preparing for the release of You Can’t Win, a new Robinson Devor film.
As a multi-instrumentalist, I have performed at a variety of festivals and venues including the REDCAT in LA, Art Basel in Miami, the Fusebox Festival in Austin, Club PuSh in Vancouver, B.C., the Chapel Performance Space in Seattle, Bumbershoot and FolkLife in Seattle, WA.,the Time Based Arts Festival in Portland, among others. I have worked with Tim Hecker, Andy Coe, Bill Frisell, Randall Dunn, Reggie Watts, Skerik, Rick Bishop, Degenerate Art Ensemble, Eyvind Kang, Hans Teuber, Kane Mathis, Keith Lowe, Lori Goldston, Matt Chamberlain, Kaveh Rastagar, Matt Jorgensen, Geoff Stanfield, Paulo Baldi, Paul Taub, Ron Weinstein, Stuart Dempster, The Sharpshooters, Alex Guilbert, Tucker Martine, Wayne Horvitz, and Timothy Young.
